RIVET automatically classifies AIA documents (G702, G703, change orders) when uploaded. This intelligent classification helps organize your construction billing documents and links them to the appropriate projects and billing periods.
How Classification Works
When you upload a construction document, RIVET's AI analyzes the document structure, layout, and content to determine the document type. This happens automatically as part of the OCR processing.
AIA G702
Application for Payment
AIA G703
Schedule of Values
Change Order
Contract Modifications
Classification Confidence
Like OCR extraction, document classification has a confidence score indicating how certain the system is about the document type.
| Confidence Level | Score | Action Required |
|---|---|---|
| High | 90%+ | Classification is automatically applied |
| Medium | 70-89% | Review suggested classification |
| Low | Below 70% | Manual classification needed |

Linking Documents to Projects
After classification, you can link AIA documents to specific projects and billing periods:
- Open the classified document from the Documents section
- In the document details panel, find the Project dropdown
- Select the appropriate project from your active projects
- If applicable, select the Billing Period the document relates to
- Click Save to confirm the association
Why Link Documents?
- •Keep all project documents organized in one place
- •Track received pay applications from GCs
- •Compare submitted vs received billing documents
- •Maintain audit trail for compliance
Document Metadata
Classified AIA documents automatically extract relevant metadata based on document type:
G702 Data
- • Application Number
- • Period To Date
- • Contract Sum
- • Total Completed
- • Retainage Amount
- • Current Payment Due
G703 Data
- • Line Item Numbers
- • Descriptions
- • Scheduled Values
- • Previous Applications
- • This Period Work
- • Materials Stored
Overriding Classification
If the automatic classification is incorrect, you can manually change it:
- Open the document from the Documents section
- Click the Document Type label or edit icon
- Select the correct document type from the dropdown
- The system will re-extract relevant fields for the new type
- Review the updated extracted data
